Friday-Sunday Roundup

Friday, I ran over to the Eastern side of the bay and drifted eels for rockfish. Caught one (my one big fish limit) and ran back in. There was a decent bite over there going on. My fish weighed in at 43.5 pounds.

Saturday, we went wreck fishing while keeping an eye out for bluefin tuna. We never saw any sign of tuna but we caught plenty of other stuff. We kept a 7-man limit of big sea bass with three citations up to 5 pounds 8 ounces. We only caught two tautog but both weighed in at 12 pounds 8 ounces. We caught blueline tilefish including 3 citations up to 16 pounds. We weighed in a total of 8 citations of 3 different species. Charles Southall was the top angler with citation tilefish, tautog, and sea bass. Wes Blow got the other tautog. Stan Simmerman caught the largest sea bass and the largest tilefish. Hamish Small caught the 3rd citation tilefish and Nino Sava caught the 3rd citation sea bass. Gabe Sava caught a nice triggerfish that just missed citation weight. Other fish included bluefish and too many spiny dogfish.

While we were wreck fishing, 2 of the guys on board had sons off fishing on their own. Charles’ son, Hunter, ran over to the Eastern Shore with a football teammate. They fished for about 10 minutes, hooked a double of big rock and came home. Stan’s son Deven, did pretty much the same thing. Drifted eels for rock, caught 45 and 46 inch fish. He weighed one in at 40 pounds.

Sunday, we fished in a couple different boats. Wes Blow took Chris Boyce (who is home for the holidays). They hooked up two fish first thing, catching one of them. Chris’ fish weighed in at 41 pounds. I went in Charles and Hunter Southall. After two days of fishing, I was happy that Charles picked a later start time than normal…until I found out that Wes and Chris had caught their fish before we had even gotten over there. We had to wait until the end of the day for our bite but it was a nice one. Charles’ fish was 50 inches long but thin, weighing in at 43.5 pounds.
