Two Trips

I went out this morning and had some good action. This afternoon, I did not but the sunset was rather awesome.

New Speck Spot

Fished with Stan Simmerman today. Fishing with Stan is great. He took me to a place I’d never fished before and he let me catch all of the big fish. He even managed to not land any of the big fish he had hooked up. I don’t know how many trout we caught. I know that I caught five between 20 and 23.75 inches long. We kept five in the 18-19.5 inch range. Tagged and released a lot and there were a lot of small specks we didn’t keep track of. We caught a couple puppy drum, a striped bass, and Stan caught a pinfish.

A Single Puff

I only managed to catch a single puffer fish this morning. The speckled trout bite kind of made up for it. I missed fish. I lost fish, including a big girl. But, I managed to hold onto a dozen, including a big girl. Most of the trout were 16-18 inches long. I had two over 20 with the largest at 27 thick inches. It weighed 7.2 pounds before being released.

Triggered

Stan Simmerman wanted to catch triggerfish so out to the ocean we went with Johnny Boyd and Michael Wells. The ocean is further away than the flats. We fished 3 wrecks and caught triggerfish at each. We picked at them, never finding the motherload. We also caught sea bass, tautog, flounder, pigfish, pinfish and a lost croaker.    Ended up with a nice box of fish.

Puffer King

Stan Simmerman and I fished for speckled trout this morning. The bite was slow. We did manage a couple nice specks and few small ones. Stan caught a flounder. The pufferfish bite was pretty good. Stan is the Puffer King. He out puffered me 3 to 1.

Breezy

Managed to catch a few this morning before the wind sent me home. Largest was 21 inches. Lost a bigger one…which seems to be what I do when trout fishing.

Speckles

Today, I went trout fishing with Stan Simmerman. We were going to fish where he had caught multiple 20-plus inch fish the day before, including 3 citation-sized fish. We got there early. I caught a needlefish on topwater. It bit me. That was it. Other than the blood dripping from my pinky, there was nothing going on. I’m thinking that Stan is being sneaky. This was not where they caught all of those big trout… Then it turned rather epic. We caught “only” one citation-sized speck and one other over 20 inches but we were on a nice class of fish. We ended up catching 23 speckled trout with the average fish being between 18 and 19.5 inch long. We also caught a couple of gray trout, a puffer fish…and that needlefish.

Speckled Afternoon

I ran back out for the sunset bite. I caught 3 specks between 18 and 21 inches long, missed some bites, and pulled off a couple. One was larger than this morning’s fish. The hook pulled as I was trying to net the fish. My net man was off eating dinner or something.
