Fishing Report 9.27.10 <\/p>\n
Water temps are still near 80 in the rivers and creeks and that is a temperature Spanish Mackeral are comfortable in. We weighed in a citation Spanish on Tuesday which was caught trolling on Windmill Bar. This is the only citation Spanish we have seen this year. Seeing a big Spanish is a reminder of all the Bluefish and drum still in the bay with this unusually warm water.<\/p>\n
Yellow bellied spot to 11″ are being caught in Butlers Hole, at the Spike and the Mudhole and off Gwynn Island. <\/p>\n
Medium to large croaker were still available in the Whitestone Bridge area over the weekend.<\/p>\n
Red drum above the 26″ maximum were caught near New Point by bottom fishermen. <\/p>\n
Gray Trout in the 10-16″ range have been found in good sized schools off Gwynn Island. The schools look like a trash pile on your fish finder. These fish are limited to one keeper per person (12″ or larger) but can be enjoyed by catch and release fishing blood worms or Fish Bites or by jigging Sting Silvers.<\/p>\n
A lot of small speckled trout have shown up in the lower Piankatank this week.<\/p>\n
When striper season starts next Monday the water will be too warm for fish to begin schooling up. Trolling won’t work until schooling begins at water temps below 60 degrees. Best approaches will be chumming to structure and using live or cut baits. Small boats with 3 or fewer fishermen should also be able to find stripers casting to docks and bridge structure.<\/p>\n
